Looking From A Distance

Gideon

  • Looking from a Distance is a tremendous perspective sculpture ideally situated in a garden as a center piece and focal point. This sculpture is hand carved from Springstone. Unlike other forms of sculpture it is impossible to replicate the identical patterns that are found within the stone. It is possible to see minerals within the stone making the piece seemingly translucent. The rich red/brown color is achieved by leaving the one side unpolished. This allows the the piece to be viewed from both sides, or can be turned to provide a different perspective . The piece is carved using a diamond tipped chisel. It is then sanded for literally hours through varying degrees of sand paper until the artist reaches 2500 grade sand paper. The sculpture is then heated and a polish is melted into the stone. Finally it is buffered to leave this wonderfully tactile surface.

Perhaps the perfect ornament to fill that special space. Or maybe a different kind of gift for that special someone or occasion. The sculpture is suitable for inside or outside the home, requiring minimal care.

  • ABOUT THE ARTIST: Gideon was taught to carve stones by his uncle. It is a tradition in his family to pass on the skills to the next generation. Gideon’s speciality is working with Verdite stone, which a semi precious mineral. Gideon is interested in abstract pieces which allows creativity as there is no limits to the art form. Gideon does not restrict his art to abstract but also enjoys carving animals such as elephants and rhinos.
